Synopsis

The Dictator (2012) is a political comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Larry Charles and star Sacha Baron Cohen reunite after Borat to skewer autocracy, this time sending fictional Middle Eastern ruler Admiral General Aladeen to New York for a UN address.

Aladeen is ousted mid-trip, replaced by a dopey body double, and dumped on the streets of Manhattan without a passport or a single bodyguard. His reluctant ally is Zoey, a Brooklyn co-op manager played by Anna Faris. Ben Kingsley plays his scheming uncle Tamir, who has his own plans for Wadiya's oil reserves. The joke engine runs on Aladeen's complete sincerity: he genuinely believes democracy is a disaster and oppression is a gift to his people.

Cohen co-wrote the script with Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer. Released in May 2012, the film grossed close to $180 million worldwide on a modest budget. Stream The Dictator online on iFILM.
