Together they chase Swedish nuclear extremist Hendricks (Mikael Nyqvist) through Dubai and Mumbai before he can trigger a launch. The centrepiece is a free-climb up the 123rd floor of the Burj Khalifa — Cruise performed the stunt himself, no CGI body double.

Brad Bird had directed only animated films before this — The Incredibles and Ratatouille — and Ghost Protocol was his first live-action feature. Producer J.J. Abrams recruited him specifically for his sense of spatial storytelling. The film grossed over $694 million worldwide and revived the franchise after a six-year gap.
