Good girl Allison (Amy Locane) is supposed to marry the right kind of boy. Instead she falls in with Cry-Baby's rockabilly crew, learns the pleasures of drag racing and forbidden music, and horrifies her respectable grandmother. Waters wrote the whole thing as a send-up of 1950s teen movies — every cliché played straight and then pushed one inch too far. The cast includes Iggy Pop, Willem Dafoe, Ricki Lake and Traci Lords, each leaning into the absurdity with obvious enthusiasm.
