Synopsis
The Midnight Gospel (2020) is a Netflix animated series you can watch online on iFILM — one part psychedelic cartoon, one part philosophy podcast. Created by Pendleton Ward of Adventure Time fame and comedian Duncan Trussell, it follows Clancy, a spacecaster who fires up a broken universe simulator and interviews the inhabitants of dying worlds: zombie presidents, shape-shifting wizards, and a very philosophical clown.
The visuals are relentlessly strange. But the conversations beneath them — real recordings between Trussell and his guests — circle serious ground: death, consciousness, meditation, sobriety. Each episode layers genuine human reflection over the chaos of hand-drawn apocalypses. The finale, a raw talk between Clancy and his own mother about loss and letting go, landed harder than anything in most prestige dramas that year.
