Synopsis
Remarkably Bright Creatures (2026) is a drama-mystery you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Olivia Newman and adapted from Shelby Van Ness's bestselling novel. Sally Field plays Tova Sullivan, a widow pulling night-shift cleaning duty at a Pacific Northwest aquarium. Lewis Pullman is Cameron Cassmore, a young man with no real direction and a missing piece in his past.
Tova's routine gets disrupted by Marcellus — a giant Pacific octopus with a habit of escaping his tank and an unnerving way of paying attention. Alfred Molina gives him a voice, and the film earns it: octopuses genuinely recognize faces, solve multi-step puzzles, and remember. Marcellus notices something connecting Tova and Cameron before either of them does. The mystery is quiet, the grief is real, and the humor is dry.
Newman keeps the pacing patient — 114 minutes that let the characters breathe instead of race. Kathy Baker, Colm Meaney, and Joan Chen round out a cast that makes the small Pacific town feel lived-in. A film about unexpected connections between people — and at least one cephalopod.
