Synopsis
BEEF (2023) is a Netflix limited series you can watch online on iFILM. Created and written by Lee Sung Jin, the show tracks two strangers whose road rage incident in a California parking lot spirals into an all-consuming personal war. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong lead, with a supporting cast that includes Joseph Lee, Young Mazino and David Choe.
Danny Cho is a struggling contractor whose family finances are one missed job away from collapse. Amy Lau has built a thriving plant business from scratch and is about to close a life-changing deal. After their cars nearly collide, neither backs down. What starts as honking and a rude gesture turns into months of surveillance, sabotage, secret-keeping and escalating self-destruction. Directors Jake Schreier and Hikari give each of the ten episodes its own texture — some episodes play as dark comedy, others land somewhere closer to tragedy.
The series won eight Emmy Awards in 2023, including Outstanding Limited Series, and three Golden Globes. It brought Korean-American and Asian-American stories to mainstream prestige television with a specificity rarely seen at that scale. At its core BEEF is a study of what happens when two people's suppressed anger finally finds a target. Stream BEEF (2023) online on iFILM.
