Marine biologist Laura Hawkins wants to go public with what she's found. Richard Connelly, a suburban insurance agent, has no interest in sea creatures until one of them rewrites his life overnight. Teenager Miles Barnfield pulls a hatchling from the water thinking he's found an exotic pet — he has no idea what he's brought home. The government has known about these creatures for longer than it admits, and it will go to uncomfortable lengths to keep that quiet.
