Takato teams up with Rika Makino and Henry Wong, two other kids who each ended up with a real Digimon through no plan of their own. The three have sharply different ideas about what these creatures are — companions or tools — and that tension runs through every arc. When hostile Digimon start breaking into the real world, the trio has to set those differences aside fast. Produced by Toei Animation as the third instalment of the franchise, Tamers is notably darker in tone than its predecessors, with tighter character writing and higher stakes throughout.
