Synopsis
A Separation (2011) — watch online Asghar Farhadi's Academy Award-winning Iranian drama on iFILM. The film took the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and the Golden Bear at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival.
Simin wants to leave Iran — for the sake of their daughter and a different life. Nader won't go: his father has Alzheimer's and cannot be left alone. The court denies the divorce; Simin moves out. Nader hires a caregiver, a devout woman managing her own precarious situation, and one argument — one moment that could be read a dozen ways — sends both families into a legal and moral spiral.
Farhadi builds the film like a case file. There are no villains here, only people who each made the decision that seemed right at the time and then watched it unspool. The camera stays close, the editing has no slack, and the last word belongs to a twelve-year-old girl forced to judge her own parents. Stream A Separation (2011) online on iFILM.
