About

Synopsis

Sing Street (2016) is John Carney's music-driven drama you can watch online on iFILM. Set in mid-1980s Dublin, it drops teenager Conor into a harsh Catholic school just as his parents' marriage and the family finances both fall apart.

Rescue arrives in the goofiest possible shape. Conor spots Raphina, an aloof older girl who dreams of modeling, and on pure nerve invites her to appear in a music video for a band that doesn't exist yet. Now he has to actually build one. Out of that lie comes Sing Street, a scrappy crew of schoolboys figuring out songwriting in real time, borrowing from Duran Duran one week and The Cure the next until their own sound emerges. Watching over it all is Conor's older brother Brendan, a stay-at-home record sage and the only believer in the plan.

Ferdia Walsh-Peelo and Lucy Boynton play the leads, with Jack Reynor as Brendan. Carney, already behind Once and Begin Again, blends music and coming-of-age again, and the soundtrack of original songs becomes a character of its own. Stream Sing Street (2016) online on iFILM.
