Synopsis
Blue Planet II (2017) is a BBC documentary series you can watch online on iFILM. Narrated by David Attenborough and directed by Alastair Fothergill, it took four years to film across 39 countries, deploying submersibles and ultra-high-definition cameras at depths previously beyond reach.
Each episode targets a different ocean habitat — open water, coral reefs, tidal zones, the polar seas. The crew captured an octopus changing colour in milliseconds, orcas hunting in coordinated packs, and tusk fish using rocks as tools. Some sequences required dozens of dives to get a single minute of usable footage.
The series arrived sixteen years after the original Blue Planet and hit harder than anyone expected. The final episode on plastic pollution sparked policy debates in several countries and drew over fourteen million viewers in the UK in a single broadcast.
