Synopsis
Planet Earth II (2016) is a BBC documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, narrated by David Attenborough. Director Alastair Fothergill and his teams spent four years across six continents to deliver six episodes, each built around a single habitat: islands, mountains, jungles, deserts, grasslands and cities.
New stabilisation technology let cinematographers keep pace with a snow leopard through the Himalayan ridgelines — footage that had simply been impossible to capture before. The Galapagos iguana-versus-racer-snakes sequence became the most talked-about piece of wildlife television in years, edited like a sprint scene from an action film. Every episode shifts the grammar of nature documentary: one feels like a thriller, another like a road trip, the last one like urban reportage.
That final episode reframed what "wilderness" even means. A peregrine falcon hunting above midnight Manhattan, elephant herds threading through Nairobi at dawn — these aren't anomalies, they're the new normal. Stream Planet Earth II (2016) online on iFILM.
