Rowling launch a new chapter of the Wizarding World set in 1926 New York, decades before Harry Potter opens a textbook. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, a soft-spoken British magizoologist who arrives in Manhattan with a battered suitcase.

Inside that suitcase live dozens of magical creatures — and several escape. The Magical Congress of the United States of America wants Newt arrested; ex-Auror Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) is not sure what to make of him; and No-Maj Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) stumbles into a world he was never supposed to see. While Newt scrambles to recover his creatures, Auror Graves (Colin Farrell) is hunting something far more destructive moving unseen through the city.

Rowling wrote the screenplay herself, her first credit for the screen. The film grossed over $814 million worldwide and kicked off a planned five-part series.
