Synopsis
The Thing (1982) is John Carpenter's landmark sci-fi horror you can watch online on iFILM. Kurt Russell leads a crew of American researchers at a remote Antarctic outpost after they discover something buried deep in the ice — an organism that has been waiting there for thousands of years. It is not dead. It just needed a warm body.
The creature can copy any living thing, cell by cell, perfectly. By the time the team realizes what they're dealing with, the question isn't just how to kill it — it's who is already gone. Wilford Brimley, Keith David, and T.K. Carter fill out the cast as trust collapses, blood tests become life-or-death rituals, and the Antarctic cold starts to feel like the least of their problems. The paranoia is as suffocating as the creature itself.
Carpenter adapted John W. Campbell Jr.'s 1938 story "Who Goes There?" and handed the creature effects to Rob Bottin, whose practical transformation sequences — built without CGI — remain among the most unsettling in film history. Critics dismissed The Thing on release; decades later it sits firmly on every serious horror canon list. Stream The Thing (1982) online on iFILM.
