The colony ship Covenant is carrying two thousand sleeping settlers to a planet on the far edge of the galaxy. A rogue transmission pulls the crew off course toward an uncharted world that looks almost too good: breathable air, dense vegetation, complete silence. No animals anywhere. That detail alone should be enough. On the surface they find David — a synthetic android and the lone survivor of the Prometheus mission, who has been waiting there for years. What he has been doing in that time is the film's real horror. Captain Oram and navigator Daniels piece it together faster than they'd like.

Fassbender plays two androids — David and Walter — and the tension between them is where Covenant is most interesting. Scott pulled the series back toward the claustrophobic dread of his 1979 original while threading in questions about creation, will, and what makes something human.
