Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow (2014) is a sci-fi action film directed by Doug Liman, starring Tom Cruise — watch online on iFILM. Alien invaders called Mimics have overrun Europe. Major William Cage has never seen actual combat, but gets thrown into the front line of a massive beach assault anyway. He dies within minutes.

Then he wakes up at the start of the same day. Dies again. Wakes up again. Each run through the battle teaches him something new, and battle-hardened sergeant Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) — who has been through the same loop herself — becomes his reluctant trainer. No respawns, no saved checkpoints. Just the same brutal morning, reset over and over until they figure out how to kill the enemy for good.

The film is based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Liman shoots the repetition as grinding attrition rather than comedy — the loops wear Cage down visibly, which is the point. Emily Blunt's Vrataski is the toughest character on screen.
