Synopsis

Lolita (1997) — watch online on iFILM: Adrian Lyne's adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov's novel, with Jeremy Irons as Humbert Humbert and Dominique Swain as the girl he cannot stop thinking about. 137 minutes. Drama, France / USA.

Humbert, a European literature professor, takes a room in a New England boarding house run by Charlotte Haze, played by Melanie Griffith. The moment he sees Charlotte's teenage daughter Dolores, he constructs an obsession that will cost him everything. Frank Langella plays Clare Quilty, the writer lurking at the edges. Irons walks the tightest of lines: Humbert is self-aware enough to narrate his own monstrousness, yet powerless to stop it.

Screenwriter Stephen Schiff stripped away the sardonic wit of Stanley Kubrick's 1962 version and leaned into dread instead. The finished film sat on a shelf for nearly three years — US distributors wouldn't touch it until 1998. Stream Lolita (1997) online on iFILM.
