Emma is a hospital resident with no room in her schedule for anything serious. Her old friend Adam just caught his father sleeping with his ex and is in no state to think straight. Emma draws up the terms: physical only, zero drama, zero jealousy. Adam signs on. For a while, the arrangement works perfectly. Then feelings show up uninvited.
Portman plays a woman who hides behind twelve-hour shifts and sharp sarcasm, while Kutcher brings a loose-limbed likability to a guy genuinely trying to play by the rules. Kevin Kline appears as Adam's aging actor father, and Greta Gerwig rounds out a sharp supporting cast.
