NRSynopsis
009-1: The End of the Beginning (2013) is a Japanese sci-fi action film you can watch online on iFILM. The Cold War never ended in this alternate timeline: the world is divided between Eastern and Western Blocks, technology has outpaced diplomacy, and cyborg agent Mylene Hoffman of the 00 Organization is sent into a border zone to dismantle a human trafficking ring.
The film adapts the manga by Shotaro Ishinomori — creator of Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009, whose work shaped post-war Japanese genre fiction. Director Koichi Sakamoto brings his tokusatsu background directly into the action: the fight sequences are choreographed tightly, and the pacing never slows enough to let tension evaporate. Mayuko Iwasa plays Mylene with the kind of controlled restraint that makes the character more than just a combat asset.
It plays like a mission-brief spy thriller dressed in retrofuturist hardware — chrome panels, analogue displays, Cold War logic taken to a technological extreme. Stream 009-1: The End of the Beginning (2013) online on iFILM.
