In a Spanish courtyard, Stanley Sugerman spots a bricklayer with a freakish game — Bo Cruz dominates the street court but has no path into the pros. The scout brings him to Philadelphia against his team's wishes and bets everything on the kid: his name, his money, his family time. Bo has the gift but a short fuse, and a rough past keeps pulling him back. To reach the draft, the two of them grind through brutal workouts and try to prove to league bosses that they belong.

Zagar shot the on-court scenes with real NBA players: Anthony Edwards plays Bo's rival, with cameos from Kenny Smith and the legendary Julius Erving.
