Synopsis
Batman: The Animated Series (1992) is a Warner Bros. animated classic you can watch online on iFILM, developed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski for Fox Kids. Bruce Wayne watched his parents die in a Gotham alley when he was a child. Everything that followed — the fortune, the years of training, the cape and cowl — grew out of that one night. Kevin Conroy voices him with a quiet authority that defined the character for a generation.
Gotham keeps the case files full. The Joker, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Two-Face — each episode brings a villain with their own fractured logic, and the writing takes them seriously. Mark Hamill's Joker set the benchmark every later version gets measured against. The episode "Heart of Ice" is still cited as a model for compressed animated storytelling, picking up an Emmy Award in the process.
The series launched on Fox Kids in September 1992 and seeded the entire DC Animated Universe that followed. The visual style borrowed from 1940s noir, the score came from Shirley Walker building on Danny Elfman's original film themes, and the tone ran darker than most animation of that era.
