Fran Drescher created the show and played its centrepiece: Fran Fine, a loud, big-hearted salesperson from Queens who lands a nanny job through the best kind of accident. After being dumped and fired on the same day, Fran knocks on the wrong Manhattan door and ends up working for Maxwell Sheffield — a widowed Broadway producer who is buttoned-up, grieving and entirely unprepared for her. The chemistry between them is the engine of the show. Butler Niles runs the household's deadpan commentary. The three Sheffield kids figure out fast that Fran is on their side.
