Synopsis
Rock Star (2001) — watch online on iFILM: a music comedy-drama directed by Stephen Herek, starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. Chris Cole fixes photocopiers by day and fronts a Steel Dragon tribute band by night. He has the riffs down cold, the wardrobe sorted, and every lyric memorized. Then the real Steel Dragon calls.
Wahlberg plays a Pittsburgh kid catapulted from bar stages to a world arena tour after the actual band picks him as their new lead singer. His girlfriend and manager Emily (Aniston) makes the jump with him, but the velocity of sudden fame starts pulling them in different directions. Real musicians — Jason Bonham, Jeff Pilson, and Zakk Wylde — fill out the band, lending the film a credibility that most rock movies never get close to. The script draws on what happened to Tim "Ripper" Owens, a Judas Priest devotee who auditioned for the band in the late 1980s and actually got the job.
