Man Up

Man Up (2015) is Ben Palmer's sharp British romantic comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Nancy is thirty-four and sick of the blind dates her friends keep arranging. Then, at a train station, a stranger mistakes her for his online match. On impulse, she just goes with it.

Lake Bell plays Nancy as prickly and self-sabotaging, hiding behind sarcasm whenever things get awkward. Simon Pegg is Jack, a charming forty-year-old divorcé who has no idea he's spending the night chasing the wrong woman. That one small lie kicks off a manic dash across London, full of bowling, drinking, chance run-ins, and one deeply uncomfortable old schoolmate, played by Rory Kinnear, ready to blow Nancy's cover at the worst possible moment. The longer the date runs, the harder it gets to admit it started with someone else's name.

Palmer keeps the pace quick, and Tess Morris' script isn't afraid of a filthy line. This is a grown-up rom-com, never sugary and genuinely funny, carried by surprisingly lived-in chemistry between Bell and Pegg. A great pick for a night when you want something light but not dumb.
