Nearly six decades after the original Fantasia (1940), Disney revisited the concert-film format with a fresh lineup of classical pieces. Beethoven's Fifth Symphony plays out in sweeping abstract shapes; Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals becomes a flamingo's story involving a yo-yo; Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue unfolds across a stylized 1930s Manhattan skyline. Stravinsky's Firebird Suite closes the film with a forest-spirit sequence that is genuinely striking. The classic Mickey Mouse segment, conducted to Paul Dukas's score, is preserved intact.
