Synopsis
K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) is a tense Cold War thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Harrison Ford plays Soviet submarine captain Vostrikov, who takes command of the K-19 — the USSR's first nuclear-armed sub — just days before its maiden deployment into the North Atlantic in the summer of 1961.
Miles from shore, the reactor cooling system cracks. No spare parts, no outside help. Vostrikov orders volunteer crews into the reactor compartment in makeshift lead gear, rotating shifts until the job is done or the men can no longer stand. Liam Neeson plays the first officer who disagrees with every call his captain makes and says so plainly. Their clash runs through every scene while the clock ticks toward a meltdown that could trigger something far larger than one sunken vessel. The film was reconstructed from declassified Soviet records and accounts given by the men who survived. Watch K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) online on iFILM.
