When wealthy heir Walter Wade Jr. — played by Christian Bale — kills a man in a racially motivated attack, Shaft arrests him. But the sole witness vanishes, bail money buys freedom, and Wade spends two years in Switzerland while his lawyers work the angles. The moment he returns, he hires street kingpin Peoples Hernandez, brought to life by Jeffrey Wright, to make the witness disappear for good. Shaft throws down his badge and goes after them both.
