About

Synopsis

Punch-Drunk Love (2002) is a romantic comedy-drama written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson — watch online on iFILM. Barry Egan sells novelty plungers, has seven overbearing sisters, and one morning finds an abandoned harmonium on the side of the road. That's about as much logic as the day gets.

Adam Sandler plays Barry not as a punchline but as a man so compressed by years of humiliation that any spark could set him off. When he meets Lena, played by Emily Watson, something shifts — she likes him without needing him to be different. Philip Seymour Hoffman turns up as a phone-scam operator trying to squeeze Barry for money, and the collision between those two storylines is one of the film's best stretches. Cinematographer Robert Elswit shoots everything in a jittery, saturated style that mirrors Barry's inner noise.

At 96 minutes, it's PTA at his most compact — and one of the most unusual love stories American cinema produced in the early 2000s. Stream Punch-Drunk Love (2002) on iFILM.
