Synopsis
The Last Castle (2001) is an American prison thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Rod Lurie and running 131 minutes. Robert Redford plays General Eugene Irwin, a decorated three-star veteran court-martialed and sent to a military prison. He arrives intending to serve his ten-year sentence quietly. What he finds inside changes that plan fast.
The prison is run by Colonel Winter, played by James Gandolfini — an administrator who collects military memorabilia and treats the inmates as objects to be managed rather than men who once served. When Winter orders something Irwin cannot overlook, the general starts working the yard. Slowly, methodically, he organizes 1,200 inmates — former soldiers, rangers, engineers, men who know exactly how to take a position. Mark Ruffalo plays a younger prisoner caught between loyalty to the system and respect for Irwin.
Director Rod Lurie built the film around the collision between institutional power and old-school military honor. Redford underplays it throughout, which makes Gandolfini's controlled menace land harder. Watch The Last Castle (2001) online on iFILM.
