Norman is out of the institution. He married the psychiatrist who treated him, and for a while it looked like a real fresh start. The film cuts back and forth: Henry Thomas plays the teenage Norman, Olivia Hussey plays Norma Bates, and the flashbacks finally lay out exactly how the obsession took root.
