The Mangler

The Mangler (1995) — watch online on iFILM — a horror film directed by Tobe Hooper, the filmmaker behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and based on a Stephen King short story first published in 1972. Ted Levine plays Detective John Hunton, called to a grim industrial laundry where a massive steam-press has been shredding workers.

Accidents happen. Except the machine's owner, the strange and imposing Bill Gartley — played by Robert Englund — makes every conversation feel like a negotiation with something older than the equipment. As Hunton and a folklore-minded friend dig deeper, the evidence stops pointing at faulty mechanics and starts pointing somewhere worse. The film was shot in the United Kingdom and South Africa, giving it a texture far removed from the American small-town setting of King's original tale.
