Synopsis
Mary Reilly (1996) is a gothic psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Stephen Frears. It retells the Jekyll and Hyde story through the eyes of a housemaid — Julia Roberts in the title role, John Malkovich playing both the doctor and his shadowy alter ego.
Mary came to Dr. Jekyll's household carrying childhood scars she never speaks of. Her employer is peculiar but kind. Then his assistant Hyde starts appearing — cold-eyed, unnerving, and strangely compelling. Mary watches, says little, and slowly begins to see the connection neither man will admit. Glenn Close rounds out the cast as a calculating brothel madam. Malkovich shifts between Jekyll's restraint and Hyde's menace with no prosthetics, no tricks — just a change in posture and gaze.
