Small Soldiers

Small Soldiers (1998) is a sci-fi action comedy directed by Joe Dante — watch it online on iFILM. A defence-chip mishap at toy company Globotech turns a batch of plastic soldiers into a fully operational combat unit. They don't stand down.

When teenager Alan sides with the Gorgonites — gentle, poetry-spouting creatures voiced by Frank Langella — the Commando Elite, led by a Tommy Lee Jones voice chip, go to war with the neighbourhood. Kirsten Dunst, Denis Leary and the late Phil Hartman round out the cast as the battle spills from the toy aisle into backyards, living rooms and garages. The Gorgonites, programmed only to hide, eventually run out of places to run.
