Topper Harley is a gifted fighter pilot with a talent for disaster. From the moment he steps onto the base, training missions collapse into slapstick and commanding officers question every career choice they ever made. Underneath the chaos sits a real motive: Harley wants to clear his late father's name. He also falls for Ramada — played by Golino — whose anatomical oddities belong in a medical textbook, not a romance.
Abrahams and co-writers Pat Proft and David Zucker packed 84 minutes with rapid-fire visual gags that hit Dances with Wolves, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and several other films without stopping to explain the joke. It rewards repeat viewing — blink and you miss a background gag that took more work than the main plot. A clean, fast comedy that holds up well into the 2020s.
