About

Synopsis

Being John Malkovich (1999) is a surreal comedy-fantasy directed by Spike Jonze — watch online on iFILM. John Cusack plays Craig Schwartz, a broke street puppeteer who lands a filing job on the mysteriously compressed 7½th floor of a Manhattan office tower.

Behind a tiny door in his office, Craig discovers a tunnel that drops you straight into the head of the real actor John Malkovich — fifteen minutes of his perspective, then out onto the New Jersey Turnpike. Craig smells money. His wife Lotte, played by Cameron Diaz in a deliberately unglamorous turn, experiences something closer to an identity crisis. Their co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener) cuts straight to the commercial angle. Charlie Kaufman wrote the script — his debut feature — and the film earned three Academy Award nominations: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Keener.
