Meet the Parents

Meet the Parents (2000) is a DreamWorks and Universal comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jay Roach. Ben Stiller plays Greg Focker, a mild-mannered male nurse with an unfortunately memorable last name, who travels to his girlfriend Pam's family home with an engagement ring in his pocket.

The problem is her father Jack Byrnes, played by Robert De Niro in full stone-faced intimidation mode — a retired CIA operative who has never met a man good enough for his daughter. Over one catastrophic weekend Greg fields a lie detector test, competes silently with Pam's perfect ex Kevin (Owen Wilson), and watches every attempt at a good impression collapse in real time. Blythe Danner plays Pam's mother Dina, the one person trying to keep the peace. It does not help much. The film runs 108 minutes and each scene finds a new, worse way for things to fall apart.

The movie earned over $330 million worldwide and launched a franchise with two sequels — Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers. What makes it work is that Stiller and De Niro both play it completely straight. Stream Meet the Parents (2000) on iFILM.
