Synopsis
Selma (2014) is a historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Ava DuVernay put the camera on the 1965 voting-rights campaign in Alabama — three marches out of a small Southern city that forced a sitting president to act.
David Oyelowo plays Martin Luther King Jr. at a moment when the movement was stalled and the opposition was brutal. Tom Wilkinson's Lyndon Johnson is a man calculating every political move. The county sheriff has no such calculations — he sends horses and clubs onto the Edmund Pettus Bridge on a Sunday afternoon. Coretta King (Carmen Ejogo) watches her husband march toward violence he knows is coming, while FBI surveillance dogs his every step.
The British-American production won the Academy Award for Best Original Song ("Glory," performed by Common and John Legend) and earned a Best Picture nomination. Oprah Winfrey, Tessa Thompson, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Lakeith Stanfield round out the ensemble. Stream Selma (2014) online on iFILM.
