Synopsis
Summer of 84 (2018) — watch online on iFILM. Directed by the Canadian trio Yoann-Karl Whissell, François Simard, and Anouk Whissell, the film follows four fifteen-year-old friends who spend their summer in a quiet suburb where local teens have been vanishing for years. Davey is convinced the killer lives next door. The neighbour is a well-liked police officer.
The boys set up a surveillance operation: stakeouts in the bushes, camcorder footage, hand-drawn maps of suspicious routes. What starts as a summer game shifts under their feet week by week. Evidence accumulates. The neighbour keeps smiling.
The filmmakers lean into eighties nostalgia — bikes, walkie-talkies, cul-de-sacs — but refuse to let that warmth cushion what's coming. The ending doesn't follow genre-comfort logic, and that's the point. Anyone tired of horror films that pull their punches at the last moment will find this one doesn't.
