About

Synopsis

In Bruges (2008) — watch online on iFILM — a dark crime comedy written and directed by Martin McDonagh, the Irish playwright making his feature debut. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star alongside Ralph Fiennes. The film was released by Film4 and Focus Features in February 2008.

Two hitmen are cooling their heels in Bruges after a job in London goes badly wrong. Ken (Gleeson) turns out to be a surprisingly enthusiastic tourist — medieval squares, Gothic towers, a boat trip along the canals. Ray (Farrell) hates every cobblestone. He drinks, picks fights, and falls for a local woman named Chloë while trying not to think about what he did back in London. Back in England, their boss Harry (Fiennes) is working out what to do about both of them.

McDonagh's script earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The dialogue is precise, profane and frequently very funny — with a streak of genuine grief underneath. Farrell took the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival. Watch In Bruges (2008) online on iFILM.
