He left the force and now works as a freelance consultant — Captain Stottlemeyer calls him when a case goes cold, and Monk shows up, notices what everyone else missed, and solves it before the credits. Trudy's case is a different story entirely.

Traylor Howard plays Natalie Teeger, his assistant who drives him to crime scenes, manages his phobia list, and occasionally reminds him to eat.
