Synopsis
The Last Dance (2020) is a 10-part documentary series from ESPN and Netflix — watch online on iFILM. Director Jason Hehir built it around the 1997–98 Chicago Bulls season, the dynasty's final and most turbulent run, with Michael Jordan at the centre.
The backbone of the series is footage nobody had seen before: a camera crew was given locker-room access during that championship season, and the footage sat in an archive for over two decades. Combined with more than a hundred interviews — Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, coach Phil Jackson, Steve Kerr, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Barack Obama among them — Hehir pieces together both the victories and the fractures behind them. Pippen's contract dispute with management, Rodman's detours to Las Vegas mid-season, Jordan's two-year detour into minor-league baseball — none of it is smoothed over.
What makes the series hit harder than a standard sports doc is the honest portrait of Jordan himself: a competitor so driven he left teammates bruised. Released in April 2020 during the pandemic, it broke records for the ESPN documentary format. Stream all episodes of The Last Dance online on iFILM.
