Synopsis

The Reader (2008) is a drama directed by Stephen Daldry that you can watch online on iFILM. Kate Winslet won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the role of Hanna Schmitz; Ralph Fiennes plays Michael as an adult, and David Kross carries the film's early stretch as the teenage version. The film is a US–German co-production adapted from Bernhard Schlink's bestselling novel.

Fifteen-year-old Michael meets Hanna by chance and a relationship begins — one built partly on the books he reads aloud to her each evening: Homer, Chekhov, Lawrence. She vanishes without a word. A decade later Michael is a law student watching a war crimes trial, and Hanna is among the defendants, answering for deaths that happened during the final months of the war. Only he begins to suspect the secret she is protecting — and why she might choose a prison sentence over the truth coming out.

The story moves through three decades of postwar Germany and refuses easy verdicts about guilt, literacy, and what we owe each other. Stream The Reader (2008) in full online on iFILM.
