Cloverfield

Cloverfield (2008) is a found-footage sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams for Bad Robot. Manhattan, late evening. Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is at his own going-away party — he leaves for Japan at dawn. His friend Hud (T.J. Miller) is handling the camera. Then the building shakes, the sky lights up over Brooklyn, and the head of the Statue of Liberty skids down a Midtown street.

While the military locks down the island, Rob discovers that Beth (Odette Annable) is trapped in a collapsed apartment near Central Park. He decides to go back in. With him: his brother Jason (Mike Vogel), Lily (Jessica Lucas), Marlena (Lizzy Caplan), and Hud — camera still rolling. The creature tearing through skyscrapers is the size of one. Nobody knows what it is or where it came from.

Bad Robot launched the film in January 2008 after a teaser campaign that withheld even the title, listing only the date "1-18-08." The $25 million production earned $170 million worldwide and opened what became the Cloverfield anthology. Reeves went on to direct War for the Planet of the Apes and The Batman.
