Three first-grade mothers — Madeline, Celeste and Jane — share school runs, wine and the appearance of picture-perfect lives. Under the surface: domestic abuse, buried secrets and old wounds. The story is told in reverse, working back from a murder at a school fundraiser through interviews with neighbors and parents. Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley carry the central trio; Alexander Skarsgård and Adam Scott play the husbands who complicate everything.
