Synopsis

Winter's Bone (2010) is an independent drama directed by Debra Granik — watch online on iFILM. Seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) is holding her family together in the Ozark Mountains: sick mother, two young siblings, no money. Her father, a small-time meth cook, posted bail using the house and vanished. If he doesn't appear in court, the family loses everything.

Ree goes looking for him through a closed-off world of clans who treat questions as insults. Every door she knocks on is a potential threat. John Hawkes plays her uncle Teardrop — low voice, coiled menace — a man who turns out to be more complicated than he first appears. Granik shot on location in Missouri, casting real residents alongside the principals, and the landscape itself feels like an antagonist.

Adapted from Daniel Woodrell's novel, the film launched Jennifer Lawrence into serious awards conversation — her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Winter's Bone won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and earned four Oscar nominations total, including Best Picture. Stream Winter's Bone (2010) in full online on iFILM.
