Flow

Flow (Straume, 2024) is an animated adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Gints Zilbalodis in a Latvian, French and Belgian co-production, the film unfolds without a single line of dialogue — just animals and rising water.

A solitary black cat wakes to a world drowned by an endless flood. The people are gone, the forest is going under, and the only refuge is a drifting boat. Aboard it gathers an unlikely crew: a easygoing capybara, a thieving bird, a loyal dog, a vain lemur. The cat fears water and trusts no one, yet survival here demands company. With no words to lean on, the story reads through behavior, glances and sound, saying more about friendship than any script could.

Zilbalodis built Flow in the free Blender engine and carried it all the way to the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and a Golden Globe. Eighty-five minutes of visual poetry about a lost world and the strangers learning to hold together. Stream Flow (2024) online on iFILM.
