Synopsis
Virgin Territory (2007) is an adventure comedy loosely based on Boccaccio's Decameron — watch online on iFILM. Director David Leland set the story in plague-era Tuscany, trading the original's oral storytelling for swordplay, scheming monks, and a lot of running through sun-drenched Italian countryside.
Ten young Florentines slip out of the dying city and hole up in a country villa. Lorenzo, played by Hayden Christensen, is quick with a blade and quicker with a scheme. Pampinea, played by Mischa Barton, is the one everyone underestimates. Tim Roth turns up as the bandit Gerbino, Rupert Friend as the lovestruck Alessandro, and a convent full of nuns who treat their vows as a loose set of guidelines.
The film is a US-UK-Italian-French co-production from The De Laurentiis Company and Anchor Bay Entertainment, running 93 minutes. It plays the Decameron source material for laughs rather than literature — Tuscan locations, a game ensemble, and enough bawdy energy to match Boccaccio's spirit if not his depth.
