Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a guy quietly trying to process the news while everyone around him loses it. His friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) drags him to bars and insists a shaved head and chemo are a great way to meet women. His mother (Anjelica Huston) is suffocating him with care. And his therapist (Anna Kendrick) is so green that Adam is only her third patient ever, so neither of them knows quite what to say.

Screenwriter Will Reiser drew the script from his own life: he beat cancer at 24, and Rogen, his real-life friend, plays a barely fictionalized version of himself.
