Synopsis

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) is an Italian horror film directed by Ruggero Deodato that you can watch online on iFILM. New York anthropologist Professor Harold Monroe (Robert Kerman) travels deep into the Amazon basin after a four-person documentary crew vanishes without a trace. He comes back with only their film canisters.

The footage tells a story no one was supposed to survive. The crew had gone further than any outsider before them, filming isolated tribes in a stretch of jungle with no roads, no contact, no way out. What happened to them is revealed fragment by fragment, shot by shot. The film invented the found-footage format years before anyone else named it — and nothing that followed has quite matched the original.

Made on a budget of roughly one hundred thousand dollars, the picture earned about two million in release and was promptly banned in dozens of countries. Deodato was arrested in Italy under suspicion of actual murder and had to produce his cast alive before a judge. That legal battle only sharpened the film's reputation.
