Dana Scully was sent to be his scientific counterweight: a medical doctor whose job was to disprove him at every turn. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson ran this partnership across eleven seasons and 218 episodes, from 1993 to 2018, with Mitch Pileggi as their supervisor Walter Skinner — a man who always seemed to know more than he let on. Mark Snow's two-note theme became one of the most recognizable sounds in 1990s television.
